Annika Sörenstam's first WTGL hole is SOS, a par 3 that plays up to 233 yards
WTGL said Wednesday that Sörenstam has joined its hole designers, and her island-green par 3 debuts in Sunday's season opener on ESPN. A second Sörenstam hole, a par 4 of up to 511 yards, comes later this season.

Annika Sörenstam is now a hole designer for WTGL and TGL, and her first creation is a par 3 called SOS. WTGL announced it Wednesday and said the hole will make its debut in the league's opening match on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN. Los Angeles Golf Club, led by Michelle Wie West, plays New York Golf Club, led by Lydia Ko, at SoFi Center.
What the hole looks like
SOS puts a ship in a Nordic setting of icebergs and icy water. Players hit from an iceberg tee, carry the ship and shape their ball around its tall sail to reach an island green. The ship is a nod to a Swedish warship that sank in Stockholm harbor on its maiden voyage in 1628.
There are 12 tee boxes, so the hole can play anywhere from 119 to 233 yards. That long end matters. Sörenstam toured the SoFi Center field of play before designing it and, per WTGL, was struck by how hard longer shots into the arena green are. She built the hole around that.

The name works three ways: the distress signal, ABBA's song "SOS," and the shot itself, a "Shot Over Sail."
How misses play
A tee shot that finds the snow around the green carries no penalty. It does leave roughly a 40-yard recovery from near the arena's usual Overtime shot spot. Find the water and it costs a stroke, with the next shot played from that same area. Either way, a missed tee shot turns into a pressure shot in front of the crowd.
"With SOS, we wanted to bring a piece of Sweden into the experience and create a hole that is fun to watch and challenging to play," Sörenstam said in the league's release.
What comes next
Her second design is a par 4 that can stretch to 511 yards, and WTGL says it will be unveiled during the coming season. Both holes will be used in WTGL and TGL matches. She joins Gil Hanse, Agustín Pizá, Nicklaus Design and Beau Welling Design on the leagues' roster of designers.
TGL also put tickets for its third season, in 2027, on sale Wednesday through Ticketmaster.
What to watch
Tune in Sunday at 3 p.m. ET to see how the 233-yard version holds up with Ko and Wie West on the tee. The TGL | WTGL app has a first look at the layout. If you play at home on a simulator, SOS is a good template for practice: pick a long-iron number, aim at a small island target, and count how often you'd be chipping from the snow.
