The Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship is going to Vietnam for the first time. The Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation, the Masters Tournament and The R&A announced Wednesday that Hoiana Shores Golf Club in Hoi An will host the 2027 championship from Oct. 28 to 31, and New South Wales Golf Club in Sydney will host the 2028 edition from Nov. 2 to 5.
Neither course has held the event before. The 2027 championship will be the 18th edition. The 2028 stop will be the third in Australia, after Royal Melbourne hosted in 2014 and 2023, according to the APGC release.
Why the event matters
The field is made up of the top male amateurs from the 43 organizations affiliated with the APGC. The winner gets an invitation to the Masters at Augusta National and an exemption into The Open the following year. Runners-up earn a place in Final Qualifying for The Open.

The Vietnam venue
Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed Hoiana Shores, which opened in 2019. The links-style, par-71 course runs along more than two kilometers of beachfront sand dunes, with views of the South China Sea and the nearby Cham Islands, per the release. It sits just south of Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the City of Lanterns, and uses red basket lanterns in place of flags on each hole.
The course already has an amateur championship on its résumé. It hosted the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific in 2025, and the World Golf Awards named it the world's best new golf course in 2020. Golfweek also reported the 2027 and 2028 picks on Wednesday.
"Golf in Vietnam is on the rise, and we are honoured to serve as host for the first time this championship is held in Vietnam," Wee Peng Siong, vice president of golf at Hoiana Shores, said in the release. "Our beautiful links-style venue will be a perfect test for the best amateurs from here in Vietnam and across the Asia-Pacific region."
What to watch
The announcement lands while this year's Asia-Pacific Amateur is being played at Te Arai Links in New Zealand, with a 2027 Masters invitation going to the winner. Follow that leaderboard this week, and keep both new venues in mind for 2027 and 2028 if you track the amateurs who turn up at Augusta each April.
