  • PGA Tour Champions released its 2027 schedule on Wednesday: 27 events, a 24-event regular season and more than $70 million in total prize money. The year opens with the Sony Championship Hawaii at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, January 14-16, and ends at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, which moves from Phoenix Country Club to Papago Golf Club.

  • Hawaii first

Waialae hosted a PGA Tour event every year from 1965 through 2026. The Sony event lost its spot on the big tour's schedule after this season, and the Champions version keeps the venue with a $3 million purse and a 78-player field, according to the tour's July announcement. The Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai follows January 21-23. Both Hawaii events finish on Saturday.

The Chubb Classic marks its 40th year in Naples, Florida, February 12-14. Players visit 18 states plus Wales, Portugal and Canada.

  • The majors

The Hoag Senior Players Championship at Newport Beach Country Club becomes one of the five senior majors, played March 25-28 per the tour's release. The Senior PGA Championship returns to The Concession in Bradenton, Florida, April 15-18, and the Regions Tradition is at Greystone in Birmingham, Alabama, May 13-16. The U.S. Senior Open goes to Oak Tree National in Edmond, Oklahoma, July 1-4. Three weeks later the Senior Open is at Royal Porthcawl in Wales, July 22-25.

Golf reporter David Rumsey posted the money breakdown: every regular-season purse is over $2 million, the U.S. Senior Open is the richest at $4 million, and The Insperity is the richest non-major at $3.1 million.

    Playoffs and the finale

The Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs open at the Stifel Charity Classic in St. Louis, October 22-24, then go to the Simmons Bank Championship in Little Rock, October 29-31. The finale at Papago is November 12-14. Golfweek reports the move is because Phoenix Country Club will be under renovation in 2027. After the season, the Skechers World Champions Cup is December 2-5 and the PNC Championship is December 18-19 in Orlando.

  • More could follow

Golfweek frames the Sony move as a possible preview. The PGA Tour switches to a two-tier schedule in 2028, and some events that miss its Championship Series could land on the senior circuit. "We might pick up some tournaments that don't stay," Scott McCarron told Golfweek. PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp has said the full 2028 PGA Tour schedule will be revealed on February 27.
