Sergio Garcia leaves LIV Golf and keeps a PGA Tour return on the table

The 2017 Masters champion said Thursday he will play the DP World Tour next season and is keeping his options open for a return to the PGA Tour. He also named the 2027 Ryder Cup team at Adare Manor as a goal.

  • Sergio Garcia is done with LIV Golf. The 2017 Masters champion said on social media Thursday morning that he will play the DP World Tour next season, and that he has not ruled out going back to the PGA Tour, which he left for LIV in June 2022.

  • "Next season I'll be playing on the DP World Tour," Garcia wrote. "This tour has been a huge part of my career from the very beginning, and I'm proud to call it home again. I'm also keeping my options open for a return to the PGA Tour."

Garcia, 46, captained Fireballs GC through LIV's run and won twice in the league, in Spain in July 2024 and in Hong Kong in March 2025, according to ESPN. He had already asked the federal bankruptcy judge to end his LIV contract after the league filed for Chapter 11 on Sept. 8. Spain's La Vanguardia reported that he plans a full DP World Tour schedule.

  • How he got back on the DP World Tour

Garcia resigned his DP World Tour membership in May 2023. ESPN reports he applied for reinstatement in November 2024 after paying more than $1 million in fines for playing conflicting events. That status is what lets him go back to Europe right away. The PGA Tour part is only a possibility for now. He did not say how or when he would try to get back there.

    Augusta and Adare Manor

The statement spent a lot of time on the Masters. In April's final round at Augusta, Garcia damaged the second tee box and broke his driver on a cooler, which got him a code-of-conduct warning, the first one the Masters has issued, ESPN reported. He said he left Augusta disappointed with himself and his actions.

"There are some great tournaments around the world to play before Augusta next April, and I can't wait to get back to the Masters," he wrote. "Augusta has given me some of the greatest moments of my life, and I'd love nothing more than to chase another green jacket at such a special place."

  • He also wants back on the Ryder Cup team. Garcia is Europe's all-time points leader, with 28.5 points across 10 appearances per Golfmagic, and he last played in 2021 at Whistling Straits. The 2027 match is at Adare Manor in Ireland. "Another goal is to make that Ryder Cup team, and to be an asset to the guys in whatever capacity that may be," he wrote. Making the team as a player is his only route in. As we reported Wednesday, the DP World Tour's rule keeps LIV veterans out of captain and vice-captain roles.

    The LIV exit list

Garcia is the latest name on a list that already includes Louis Oosthuizen, Ian Poulter, Tyrrell Hatton, Branden Grace, Tom McKibbin, Graeme McDowell and Jon Rahm.

For now, watch the DP World Tour's early 2027 entry lists for his first start, and whether he goes after PGA Tour status before the Masters in April.
