  • Tyrrell Hatton is leaving LIV Golf. The 35-year-old Englishman posted a short statement on Instagram Friday, October 23, saying he will not be part of LIV 2.0, the league's planned relaunch. Golfweek, BBC Sport and bunkered all reported the post.

  • "Wanted to confirm that I will not be a part of LIV 2.0," Hatton wrote. "A big thank you to everyone for their continued support. I am excited for what the next chapter of my career holds. Looking forward to seeing you all in Abu Dhabi."

Golf Channel reads that last line as a reference to the DP World Tour's Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship, November 5-8. Jon Rahm, his former Legion XIII captain, is also set to play there in his first start since finalizing his own LIV exit earlier this month.

Hatton signed with LIV in January 2024 and joined Rahm on Legion XIII. He won twice as an individual: Nashville in 2024 and LIV Golf Andalucía this June, where Golf Channel says he beat Rahm by two shots. Spotrac lists his LIV earnings at $43,758,985 across three seasons, including $14,772,625 in 2026.

Before LIV he won the 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational, and he has eight DP World Tour titles. BBC Sport notes he has played in four Ryder Cups for Europe. Unlike Poulter and Oosthuizen, he gave no reason for leaving.

    A bad Friday for LIV

Ian Poulter announced his exit Friday morning and Branden Grace followed a few hours later. Louis Oosthuizen left earlier in the week. Later on Friday, Hatton's Legion XIII teammate Tom McKibbin said he was leaving too, according to Irish Golfer.

  • The league is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is trying to line up as much as $300 million in financing from BC Partners Credit, BBC Sport reports. Golfweek says BC Partners' deal depends partly on LIV keeping enough players, and the date for player commitments has moved from October 13 to Sunday, October 25.

The DP World Tour has also raised the stakes. It told BBC Sport that anyone who plays LIV in 2027 will not be allowed tour membership, and players have until November 16 to sign up for next season.

    What to watch

Watch for Hatton and Rahm in the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship field when it starts November 5. Before that comes Sunday's October 25 commitment date, which should tell us whether LIV keeps enough players for 2.0 or more names follow Hatton out. Golfweek's LIV tracker is keeping a running list of who's staying and who's leaving.
