Jackson Koivun has joined Motor City Golf Club for the team's first TGL season in 2027, giving Detroit's expansion roster a second announced player alongside Brooks Koepka.
TGL and the PGA Tour announced the signing on October 5. It adds a 21-year-old with recent team competition experience to the arena golf league's new franchise. Motor City said more roster announcements will follow in the coming weeks. The club’s own announcement introduces Koivun as its next player.
Koivun arrives after an unbeaten Presidents Cup debut at Medinah. He finished 2-0-1 as the United States won 17-13, including a 2-up singles victory over Si Woo Kim after the Americans entered the final day three points behind. That record is a useful part of the signing: Motor City is building a team, and Koivun has already played meaningful matches with teammates beside him.

The 3M Open result shows how quickly his individual game arrived on Tour. The official leaderboard records rounds of 64, 68, 61 and 66, a 25-under total of 259 and a three-shot win over Scottie Scheffler. His Saturday 61 built the lead; a closing 66 completed his first PGA Tour victory in his third professional start. Before turning professional, he helped Auburn win NCAA Division I team championships in 2024 and 2026. The league's announcement also notes that he twice swept the Fred Haskins, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus awards for the country's leading college golfer.
In the signing announcement, Koivun pointed to national championships and the Presidents Cup as some of his best golf experiences. He said he had visited SoFi Center and wanted to compete alongside Koepka while helping build a team Detroit could support.
For TGL viewers, the next development to watch is the rest of Motor City's roster. Monday's announcement establishes Koivun's place on the team; it does not name its remaining players or lay out his match assignments.
RJ Ochoa’s independent report for SB Nation’s golf coverage, syndicated by Yahoo Sports, frames the signing as another young player joining the Tour’s arena league while Motor City fills out its roster. The announcement and July leaderboard give that description concrete support: a recent college team champion has already won against a field that included Scheffler. They do not establish how he will perform in TGL’s different format.
The signing follows the broader TGL and WTGL season plans already covered by The Perfect Lie. Read the arena golf season preview for that context. Koivun's arrival gives the Detroit expansion story a specific new player to follow.
