Wesley Bryan clears the Old Course Major Cut challenge

The Bryan Bros’ Old Course finale brings fog, a live crowd and a last-green chance for George after both brothers opened with 70s.

  • In the Bryan Bros’ Old Course finale, Wesley Bryan cleared the Major Cut challenge at St Andrews, while George Bryan’s attempt ended with a missed birdie putt on the 18th in the Bryan Bros’ latest Old Course episode.

The video, published October 20, completes a two-round test with Grant Horvat. The three set an even-par target over 36 holes. PGA TOUR’s historical cut table confirms that 144, even par, made the cut when The Open last visited St Andrews in 2022. This is the creators’ own challenge; the scores do not represent entry into an Open Championship.

George and Wesley both began the second round at two under after opening 70s. Horvat had shot 80, leaving him eight over and needing a much larger recovery. That difference gives the round two separate pressures: Wesley trying to protect his position, and George working to stay on the line as the weather worsens.

  • George takes the decision to the last green

With the Road Hole and the 18th left, George is back at even par. Fog is moving through the course, and he repeatedly discusses the difficulty of seeing through his glasses. The players and caddies have to identify targets through the haze while the challenge remains unsettled.

George reaches the final hole needing birdie. His chance stays alive until the putt, but it does not fall. The closing conversation confirms the outcomes: Wesley has made the cut; George and Horvat have come up short.

The crowd around the finish adds another part of the test. The players talk about nerves on the opening tee, and Horvat thanks the spectators after the round. Between those reactions and the changing visibility, the episode shows how a familiar score target becomes harder to manage once there are people watching and only a few holes left.

  • Horvat had acknowledged the size of his task before teeing off: after the 80, he needed an eight-under round to reach even par. His final-hole birdie supplies a better finish to the trip, but it cannot erase the first day’s deficit.
