Stephen Curry says he wants to play in as many highly competitive amateur golf events as he can once his basketball career is over. He said it in a Golf Channel interview that the network posted to YouTube on Oct. 21 under the question of whether he could turn up in a future U.S. Mid-Amateur.

In the video, Curry says his handicap is "barely on the plus side," which he calls a good place to be with the NBA season about to start. He says he averages about two rounds a month during the season and, because he has played his whole career in California, can sometimes sneak in 30 minutes at the range after practice.
Asked for his low rounds, Curry says he has shot 68 a couple of times in competition and 66 about a dozen times at his home course in San Francisco.

Who he studies
Curry names Tommy Fleetwood's iron swing and Rory McIlroy's tempo, which he says you can't copy but can be inspired by. On Scottie Scheffler, he points to the level of detail and the volume of work behind the consistency. "Even if I don't have it, I made something out of that round," he says, describing what he admires.
He also says two things carry over from shooting a basketball: the feel in the hands that has to be learned over time, and visualizing how a shot will move while processing a lot of information in a split second.
The Mid-Am question
The U.S. Mid-Amateur is the USGA's championship for amateurs 25 and older. Curry does not name it in the clip. The amateur plan is not new, though. Golf Channel's Five Clubs show described him discussing plans to compete in amateur events after his NBA career when he joined host Gary Williams from the Curry Cup at Bethpage Black in September.
Golf writer Jeff Eisenband reacted on X on Wednesday.
For sim golfers
The video runs just under six minutes and is worth a watch for Curry's take on feel and visualization. Indoors, try his idea directly: before each shot, call the shape and starting line out loud, then check the launch data to see whether the ball did what you pictured.
