Shipnuck says Bryson will cherry-pick majors and YouTube, not grind Europe

On Dan on Golf, Alan Shipnuck frames Bryson DeChambeau as the biggest question mark after LIV 2.0 collapsed. In the interview, Shipnuck and host Dan say they cannot picture Bryson spending a year on the DP World Tour to earn a PGA Tour card.

  • Alan Shipnuck joined Dan on Golf on Thursday for a 28-minute offseason talk about why LIV Golf fell apart and what Bryson DeChambeau does next. The conversation, posted to the Dan on Golf YouTube channel the same day BC Partners and LIV's wind-down dominated the news, spends its sharpest stretch on Bryson.

  • Why Bryson is the open question

Shipnuck and Dan treat Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton and other recent leavers as mostly settled. Those players already know the DP World Tour, and Rahm has publicly flirted with taking a Brooks Koepka-style penalty path back to the PGA Tour. Bryson is different in their telling. He was the star who kept saying yes to LIV 2.0. Dan says the reboot looked "kind of going to be the Bryson tour," with an ownership stake for DeChambeau and a web of relationships around his agency, GSE. Shipnuck does not claim to have the exact ownership paperwork, only that Bryson was the one headliner still bought in when the money and the roster thinned out.

What they think his calendar looks like

Dan cannot see Bryson "shlepping around Scandinavia" for a full season to chase a PGA Tour card through Europe. Shipnuck agrees Bryson is moving into his mid-30s and "doesn't have an endless horizon" left. In the interview they sketch a different schedule:

    Golf Chuck
    • Major championships into 2029, which they say he already has lined up
    • Invitational stops that will "throw him a bag," naming places like Dubai as the type of event
    • YouTube and other content between starts
    • Occasional PGA Tour starts if a major win or other exemption puts him in the field

Dan says he cannot picture Bryson grinding again to make the Tour Championship. Shipnuck notes Bryson has said he can stay tournament sharp without a full slate of events, and that he has always been more of a range player than a reps player.

    How they explain LIV's end

The rest of the interview is Shipnuck's autopsy of LIV, and it stays inside what he and Dan say on camera. Shipnuck argues BC Partners and the Public Investment Fund did not kill the league. The players did, he says, by refusing to pledge for LIV 2.0 once the guaranteed money dried up. "As soon as the money dried up, they all ran for the hills," he tells Dan. That reading overlaps today's bankruptcy and funding coverage without adding a new court filing. The Bryson calendar talk is the part that is new for TPL readers.

    Watch it

The full sit-down is embedded above. For sim golfers and Tour fans tracking the post-LIV map, the useful takeaway from Shipnuck is the split: most LIV stars look headed back toward established tours, and Bryson may build a majors-plus-content year instead.
