The Tour Championship starts everyone at even par, ending the staggered-score era. Scottie Scheffler's season-long lead becomes seeding rather than strokes.

The Tour Championship begins Aug. 27 at East Lake with 30 players and no staggered starting strokes. The leaderboard will read like a conventional tournament from the first tee, a clear break from the format that gave the points leader an opening advantage.
Scottie Scheffler still arrives as the season-long standings leader, but that work now shapes qualification and position rather than a head start on the card. Wyndham Clark moved to No. 3 after winning the BMW Championship, showing how much the final playoff events can change the order before Atlanta.
The purse adds another sharp edge: $40 million overall and $10 million to the winner. With every player starting level, one hot week can produce the largest prize even if another golfer owned the season's strongest body of work.

That trade is the format's central bet. The Tour gains a clean television product and a champion who wins the actual tournament. It gives up some protection for season-long excellence. East Lake will decide whether clarity is worth making the finale more volatile.
