True Temper's Dynamic Gold Flighted shafts launch higher in the long irons
True Temper launched Dynamic Gold Flighted on Nov. 2, a set of steel iron shafts built to launch higher in the long irons and lower in the scoring clubs. It comes in four weights, including a heavier Proto version already in use on tour.

True Temper has a new version of Dynamic Gold, and this one doesn't fly the same from club to club. Dynamic Gold Flighted went on sale Nov. 2 through authorized retailers. The idea is a steel iron set that launches higher in the 4- and 5-iron and comes out lower and more controlled in the short irons and wedges.
"Players love Dynamic Gold for how it feels and how it holds its line, but they are looking for a different flight out of a 4-iron than they need out of a pitching wedge," Scott Cokeing, True Temper's senior director of alloy engineering, told GolfWRX. "The challenge was changing trajectory without changing the feel."
How it works
Most iron shaft sets step the tip section up by half an inch from one club to the next. True Temper says Flighted uses a three-quarter-inch step and also changes the handle length through the set. The long irons get a softer, more active tip, and the tips get firmer as you move toward the wedges. The handle stays firm the whole way, which is where the familiar Dynamic Gold feel is supposed to come from.

That's a different approach from Dynamic Gold AMT, the older line that got lighter in the long irons to add a little height. Flighted changes the profile instead of the weight.
The lineup
Every model has a .355-inch taper tip, a .600-inch butt and raw lengths from 37 to 40 inches. GolfWRX and Golf Post list these weights:
Model Flex Weight DG Flighted 95 R300 about 100 g DG Flighted 105 S300 about 110 g DG Flighted 115 X100 about 120 g DG Flighted 130 Proto about 131 g The Proto has already been in testing on the pro tours. True Temper's store lists Flighted at $40.99 per shaft, so a seven-piece set runs about $287 before installation. It sits alongside regular Dynamic Gold rather than replacing it.
What to do with it
The claim is a better spread of heights and landing angles through the bag, which is exactly what a launch monitor can check. If you already play Dynamic Gold and your long irons come in flat, book a fitting and hit Flighted next to your current shafts on the same heads. Compare peak height and descent angle on the 4- and 5-iron, and check that your wedge numbers don't move. No independent testing has been published yet, so treat the launch gains as True Temper's claim for now.
