Cottam’s record 58 did not secure promotion. Six places were still to be decided when the season finale began.

  • Kyle Cottam shot 58 on PGA Tour Americas last month. He entered its season finale 27th on the points list, according to the tour’s Friday report, still needing a big finish to reach the Korn Ferry Tour.

He and Marcus Byrd gave themselves a chance in the Dominican Republic Tour Championship. Cottam birdied Friday’s last two holes for a 67, joining Byrd at 8 under after 36 holes at PGA Ocean’s 4. Byrd shot a second straight 68 after entering the week 39th in points.

The top ten on Sunday’s final points list earn Korn Ferry Tour membership for 2027. PGA Tour Americas announced four mathematically secured places before this event, leaving six to be decided at the finale.

  • A record round, then more work

Cottam’s September 58 at Uplands Golf Club in Victoria was the lowest round in PGA Tour Americas history. In Cleve Dheensaw’s reporting for the Times Colonist that day, Cottam described shaking as he approached the 18th hole.

“Obviously, you don’t wake up thinking you are going to shoot a 58,” he told the newspaper.

He finished that tournament tied for fifth, then tied for seventh at the ATB Classic. Those results helped him reach the season finale, but had not secured promotion. The tour says this is his first season with PGA Tour Americas membership after earning a place through Q-School in March.

  • Byrd arrived with a different record: 11 career victories on the Advocates Professional Golf Association Tour, including July’s event at TPC Deere Run. His best PGA Tour Americas finish this season was a tie for third in Brazil.

The field has 60 players and no cut. The finale awards 600 points to its winner, compared with 500 at regular-season events. The tour said every entrant could still finish in the top ten when the week began.

Saturday’s third round was in progress at publication, so the shared lead above describes Friday’s completed 36-hole standings. The live leaderboard carries the changing scores; Korn Ferry Tour places will be decided after Sunday’s final round.
