  • Grant Forrest birdied the final hole to win the Open de España on Sunday, finishing at 14 under and one shot ahead of Eugenio Chacarra and Victor Perez. The victory also secured the Scot a first appearance at the Masters and a place in the 2027 Open Championship at St Andrews.

Forrest and Perez reached the short par-four 18th tied, with Chacarra already in the clubhouse at 13 under. Perez’s third shot ran past the hole and he settled for par. Forrest converted his birdie attempt to finish a final-round 70 and end the tournament without a playoff.

The DP World Tour posted the winning putt from Madrid.

  • It was the last step in a recovery on a day when several players had a chance to win. Forrest made three bogeys on the front nine, then worked back to even par for the round with a birdie at the par-five 14th. His closing birdie completed four rounds of 66, 67, 67 and 70 at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.

Chacarra gave the home crowd its strongest challenge. Playing through a broken toe, he shot 66 and birdied the 18th to set the clubhouse target. His early charge included an eagle at the seventh, but a bogey at the par-three 17th left him needing the closing birdie just to reach 13 under.

The same stretch hurt other contenders. Jacob Skov Olesen bogeyed the 17th and finished fourth. Joe Dean, who began Sunday tied with Forrest for the lead, dropped a shot at the 16th and ended tied for fifth with Dan Brown. Brown closed with five consecutive birdies for a 64, the lowest round of the day.

  • Forrest called the result “fairy tale stuff” in his post-win interview. He described a difficult year in which he had struggled with his game, then credited staying in contention and making putts at the right moments. The official final-round video includes that interview, beginning at 12:07 after the winning finish.

  • This is Forrest’s third DP World Tour title, following the 2021 Hero Open and the 2025 Nexo Championship. He had twice finished third at the Spanish Open, in 2021 and 2024. This time, the last putt gave him the trophy and two major championship dates for next year.
